Good Luck Salary Man (The Smoke Break)
This piece is a homage to a traditional Korean painting of a tiger and a magpie. In Korean folklore, the magpie symbolizes good luck, a contrast to the more ominous meaning it holds in England, where I grew up. During my years living in Korea (2007–2014), I became enamored with Korean folklore and its rich storytelling. In this artwork, I asked myself, “Where did all the anthropomorphic characters go?” — and the answer, of course, is that they’re on a smoke break at one of Korea’s mega conglomerates. This 11×17 print is produced on 65lb watercolor paper for a high-quality finish.
