Some art stops you, not because it’s trying to, but because something in it already feels like yours. Maybe it’s a shape you recognize, a character that seems like it came from somewhere real, or a nod to a place you know. That’s the feeling I’m chasing.

My work starts with looking. I look at a place’s symbols, its history, and the icons it built its identity around (plus a few it probably wishes it hadn’t). From there I make spray-painted woodcuts, paintings, and sculptures, all by hand. The work is character-driven and loud, and it’s mostly there to make you smile.

It comes out of cartoons, comics, and street stuff, the kind of art that never got taken very seriously. I’ve never wanted to make things that sit quietly in a white room. I’d rather a piece end up on a brick wall, above somebody’s record collection, or in a hallway that’s been waiting for something with a little weight to it. That’s where they seem happiest.

I’m based in Cincinnati, where I run Studio Beechmont in Mt. Washington. I’ve been making work in the studio for over twenty years and making it for clients for about ten, from global tech brands to Cincinnati institutions to the businesses on my own street.
